First picture: The new haircut. Elder Cox is on the left and Elder Williams on the right
Second picture: See Mom and Dad, I do keep my room clean. It's funny because
a lot of the other missionaries rooms are so messy the custodians were like
"finally a clean room."
Hey everyone,
Week 2 from the MTC. This week has
gone by so fast and now our district is the oldest in our residence. On Friday, we got
our travel plans. There are 10 missionaries going to Perth. We leave Monday at 3:20 pm.
The rest of the district is leaving earlier at 3 in the morning.
On Saturday, we had our last TRCs (they
practice teaching lessons to "investigators". Some are already LDS but others are not) with our
first two investigators. We got both committed to baptism dates. This Sunday was fast Sunday. It was awesome in sacrament
meeting because here wasn't any of those awkward gaps where no one is talking.
After sacrament, we had a mission conference. The MTC presidency talked to us
about how to teach the plan of salvation the simple and correct way. After that
we had ponder time so we got to watch videos on LDS.com.
Then we had choir again but this time we are singing sweet hour of
prayer.
For the devotional, we had Jenny
Oaks Baker. She is a famous violin player. At the beginning, she was talking
about how she went to her dad for some advice and said "my dad, Dallin H
Oaks". She threw it out there like it was nothing and all of us
missionaries were like "What!" She performed hymns with her family
and it was pretty awesome. She also told us about how here family got robbed in
Italy but everything turned out fine. I'm glad I'm going to Perth instead of
Italy.
After that the MTC presidency told
us that all the missionaries had to watch the character of Christ by Elder
Bednar again. I felt like I got so much more out of it the second time. Then
after they announced that they had a surprise for us. Elder Bednar was at the
MTC. It was awesome. He and his wife did a question and answer session. They
started out in the new building and then came to the gym where we were at. It
was so cool to be able to listen to an apostle of the Lord.
On Monday, we got two new TRCs. One
is a big Samoan dude. He is really cool. The other is a woman who I know for
sure is not a member. We started by asking why she wanted to meet with us and
she told us it was because she was getting paid $12 an hour. We also asked her
if she would pray and she said, "haha, that's funny". She is one
really tough person to teach.
On Tuesday had a devotional by Elder Sitati
of the seventy and his wife. He is awesome. On Wednesday, our district leader elder
Williams was sick so we took lunch to him in the hospital. Heidi, Sister
Nelson, was also there because of pain in her leg. Don't worry Mom, she is
alright now. They did an ultrasound and everything looked good so they gave her
some drugs and now she's fine. After that, we had our TRCs they were pretty
good. During our second one the investigator flipped us off. Actually, it was
how she told us she would react if Lehi told her of her sins and to repent.
Well, that was awkward but at least we know she read. The rest of the lesson we
focused on prayer and we read alma 32. After dinner, we took turns
staying with elder Williams in the residence. I missed the first hour of class
but I got some time to read my scriptures.
Today we got haircuts. It is crazy
to think that in 3
days we are leaving. The next time I email I'll be in the land
down under.
Anyway, have a great week. Love
you all,
Elder Nelson
