This past week has been busy and we have done heaps of service in the town. For example on Wednesday we went and helped one of the members move some of his massive toolboxes from his old house to the old fire station in town.
On
Thursday we were riding our bikes to an appointment when a car drove
past and then stopped and reversed. It turned out to be a member family
that was on their way down to Perth from Karratha which is over 1000 km
north. It was pretty cool to run into them.
On
Friday morning we had a service with the other elders and raked up
heaps of leaves for one of the ladies the other elders met. Then
afterwards I went on exchanges with Elder Logo (pronounced like longo;
it's kinda funny because all the other missionaries in the branch have
really hard names so even though I am the newest, I'm the only one they
actually call by my name
)
Then
on Saturday morning we drove out of town a couple kms to a place called
mills lookout. The branch had a service project there to clean it up a
bit and paint over the graffiti which was fun. Then later that night
after a bit of tracting we went to a Christmas party at one of the
members homes. There were a good number of nonmembers there as well that
we talked with.
So on
Sunday it rained heaps and during sacrament meeting the power went off
in the chapel. But it wasn't too big of a problem since all they had to
do was open the curtains to let the light in and they kept going on as
usual. The first part of sacrament meeting was the primary program which
lasted for about ten minutes since there are only two kids in primary.
It is funny because the two kids are siblings and their mom is the
primary president. The presentation was really nice. During the
presentation they had us missionaries come up to sing with the kids
because the electric organ wasn't working since the power was out. Only
after sacrament did they realize that they could have just used the
piano.
After
church we went to the Grinceris home for an early Christmas dinner.
They are the senior missionary couple here as well as he is the branch
president. After dinner we watched the First Presidency Christmas
Devotional. It was cool listening to an Aussie talk about Christmas down
under.
So this week
we will be heading down to Perth city for a special Christmas
conference with all the other elders serving in country areas. We are
all excited because usually when you get sent to a country area (areas
long distances from the city) you don't get to see any of the other
missionaries in the mission until you get transferred. So I look forward
to seeing some of my old companions this week.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week and I look forward to skyping this next week.
Love
Elder Nelson
