So this has been a pretty crazy week with the new year as well as transfers.

So on Monday because it was new years eve we had to be back in the flat by 6 and couldn't leave. We did some packing and then finished updating the records so that the new elders will know what they are doing.

On Tuesday we went around to all of the members that lived in our area to say goodbye. It is interesting because three of us elders in Geraldton are leaving and the elder that is staying is coming up to our flat with his new companion. And then they are bringing a companionship of sisters to cover their area. The nice thing is that Kalgoorlie and Geraldton are in the same district so we still get to talk to them.

On Wednesday morning me, my companion, and the other elder that is leaving loaded the bus and 6 hours later we arrived in Perth. We got picked up by Elder and Sis Daley who are the senior couple that manage the cars, bikes, flats, and referrals. Elder Afualo and I got to tag along with them for the rest of the day and then stayed the night at their flat.

The next morning we drove to the train station and headed off to Kalgoorlie. It was a long 7 hour train ride but it was cool to see the countryside. We got to Kalgoorlie and the ward mission leader picked us up and took us to our flat to drop our stuff off. He then took us to get some food. Later that night we went to his home for dinner and started discussing some of the members and people that the past missionaries had been teaching.

So Kalgoorlie is a mining town and the main thing they mine is gold. Right at the edge of the town is what they call the super pit which is the largest open pit gold mine in the world. Another interesting thing about Kalgoorlie is that the streets are massively wide. I'll have to send a picture because it is crazy. Apparently they used to have camel trains(which is a heap of camels pulling a cart) and the roads needed to be wide so they could do a u-turn. The other thing about Kalgoorlie is that there is a heap of red sand here.

The rest of this week we have been visiting the members that live here. There are a lot of Polynesian families here (like Tongans, Samoans, Maori) and so far every day this week we have had a meal with a member family. It is also exciting to see the members with a desire to share the gospel and serve the community

On Sunday we got to meet a lot of the members at church. We also met Hoje who is a Chinese man that came to the mining university here and met the missionaries. He is cool as and comes to church every week. He doesn't speak English that much so the past elders had been teaching him English. Unfortunately he will be heading back to China at the end of the month.

Not too much else has happened. Elder Afualo and I are slowly starting to figure the area out so we hope to see a lot of miracles this next week.

Have a great 2019

Love
Elder Nelson
